Direct answer
NRV is a food-labelling reference, not a personal prescription or a tolerable upper limit.
Formula and limits
The calculator divides the amount by the EU adult reference and multiplies by 100. Units must match.
Use the current consolidated regulation and current product label when exact compliance matters.
What the NRV percentage can — and cannot — tell you
NRV is an EU label reference for adults. It helps compare declared amounts, but it is not an individual prescription and it is not the same as a tolerable upper intake level.
When several supplements or fortified foods are used, add the repeated nutrients before interpreting the result.
Use the current serving size and the correct unit: milligrams and micrograms are not interchangeable.
Annex XIII of the EU food information regulation provides nutrient reference values used on adult food labels. The calculator divides the entered amount by the relevant reference value and returns a percentage.
A result of 100% NRV is not automatically an ideal dose and it is not the same as a tolerable upper intake level. UL values are separate safety assessments and are not established for every nutrient. When several supplements overlap, add absolute amounts as well as label percentages.
Check the unit before calculating: micrograms and milligrams differ by a factor of one thousand.
